FAQ & Support

Guidance on taking a face scan, reading your BESTFACE SCORE and analysis, keeping up your routine, privacy, supported devices, and subscriptions.

Scanning

Open the Scan tab and line your face up with the frame. Guides for nine directions then appear one after another. Just turn your face slowly toward each one: nine directions, two rounds, about 10 seconds. Hold the device still and move your head instead — that gives the cleanest capture.

Keeping these five consistent noticeably reduces the noise in your numbers: • Take your glasses off • Keep a neutral expression (lips lightly closed, face relaxed) • Hold the device at eye level, straight in front of you • Stay 22–45 cm from the screen • Use a bright room with even light coming from in front of you

Once a day is enough. A face barely moves over a single day. Scanning several times a day mostly surfaces small swings caused by puffiness and changes in lighting.

Yes. The more consistent your time of day, location, lighting, and camera distance, the less your trend line wobbles and the easier real change is to read. Picking a fixed moment you pass through daily — right after washing your face in the morning, for example — works well.

Quality is calculated from how many frames returned usable depth, how still your head was, your distance from the camera, and the light level. It drops when you move too fast, when it is dark, when you are too close or too far, or when hair or a hand covers part of your face. Scores from a low-quality scan fluctuate more, so we recommend scanning again.

Measurements come from the 3D shape of your face (the mesh and depth data), so a fringe falling over your jawline can shift the numbers. Pin it back before scanning. Makeup has little effect on shape measurement, but scanning in the same state each day keeps conditions consistent.

Analysis & score

It condenses the facial shape data measured on your device into a single number out of 100, using a fixed formula: symmetry 30% + proportion 20% + eyes 15% + face line 15% + nose 10% + lips 10%. The calculation runs entirely on your device, and the same scan always produces the same score (an AI never generates the number). It is a geometric reference point, not a judgment of attractiveness.

Puffiness, posture, tension in your expression, lighting, and camera distance all move the numbers. Rather than each day's change, look at the direction of the line in the Trend tab over one to two weeks. The more consistent your scanning conditions, the smaller the swings.

It is the spread (Δ) across your three most recent scores. A smaller value means your scanning conditions are consistent and the trend can be read with confidence. When it is large, work on your scanning setup — time of day, distance, lighting — before worrying about the score itself.

They are the measurements listed in the Analysis tab: 16 landmark-based measurements such as the facial index, the mid-face to lower-face ratio, chin projection, canthal tilt, and nose centering, plus 4 reference items. Each one shows your value, the ideal range, and whether it currently falls inside that range.

The 8 skin items (texture, pigmentation, and so on) and the 4 reference items are currently reference values, not measurements. The camera is not analyzing your skin. What is actually measured are the landmark-based items derived from the 3D shape of your face. Treat the skin items as a guide when choosing routine steps.

No. The ideal range is a geometric reference band — it does not rank people or judge appearance. Items outside the range are not flaws; the app calls them room to grow, and works on them only through what habits can move: puffiness, posture, expression, and left–right differences.

Routine

Nine short steps in the morning and nine in the evening, 18 in total. Each runs as a timed session, so you simply work through them in the order shown. It takes about two minutes a day. Based on your scan, the items with the most room to grow appear at the top.

We cannot promise a timeframe or a number of points. But since a face barely moves in a single day, we suggest sticking with it for around two weeks and then looking at your trend line. When you cannot see a change, it often is not that nothing is happening — it is that a mirror cannot show you the difference.

The streak counter resets, but none of your scans or trend data is lost. The streak is only there as a measure of how easy the routine is to keep up. Starting again from day one the next day is perfectly fine.

It is a page in the routine information hub that lists 12 widely circulated techniques, ordered by how well supported they are. It covers weakly supported claims too — such as the idea that bone structure can be changed — so you can see where reasonable expectations end.

The 10 categories in "evidence-based fundamentals" and each technique carry an indication of how strong the supporting evidence is. Use it to prioritize the well-supported items and to avoid forcing the weakly supported ones into your routine.

It will not change your bone structure. BestFace only works on what actually moves: puffiness, posture, facial muscles, the impression your skin gives, and left–right differences. For anything involving bone structure or tooth alignment, please consult a physician or dentist.

Privacy

All facial measurement and score calculation happens inside your iPhone. Only when you are signed in, and so your history can move with you to a new device, the metrics JSON, the 3D mesh (.obj), and a front-facing photo (.jpg) are stored in a folder of your own on Supabase. Access controls mean only your account can read that folder.

No. The AI only receives numbers such as your scores, along with the answers you select in the app. Neither your photo nor your 3D mesh is ever sent.

No. We do not use your data for training, and we do not sell or provide it to third parties.

Use "Delete all data and close account" in your profile to remove both the data on your device and the data on the server in one step. Deleting the app alone leaves the server-side data in place. Please also note that deleted data cannot be restored.

Yes. If you do not sign in, your scan results are saved only on your device and nothing is stored on the server. The trade-off is that your history cannot be carried over when you change devices or reinstall the app.

Stored files sit in a folder tied to your account and cannot be read by any other account. The app has no leaderboards and no feature for publishing your results to other users.

Devices & pricing

An iPhone or iPad with a TrueDepth camera (Face ID), running iOS 18.0 or later. Scanning relies on that camera to measure facial depth, so devices without TrueDepth — Touch ID-only models, for example — cannot use the scan.

Yes, on models with a TrueDepth camera such as the Face ID iPad Pro. Because an iPad is harder to hold steady, keeping distance and angle consistent is trickier than on iPhone. Propping it on a stand helps.

BestFace is currently iOS only. Measurement is built around the depth data from the TrueDepth camera, and few devices can reproduce the same measurements.

Auto-renewing subscriptions: ¥5,980 per year (roughly ¥115 per week) or ¥1,580 per week. There is no free trial. The amount displayed can vary with your App Store country/region setting.

Cancel from iOS Settings > Apple Account (your name) > Subscriptions > BestFace, at least 24 hours before your next renewal date. After cancelling, you can keep using the app until that renewal date.

If you have been signed in with Sign in with Apple, simply sign in with the same Apple ID on the new device and your scans and trend data come with you. If you were using the app without signing in, the data on the old device cannot be transferred. Your purchase itself can be brought back with "Restore Purchases".

Troubleshooting

Please check the following: • That your device has a TrueDepth camera (Face ID) • That the front camera lens is clean • That you are 22–45 cm from the screen • That a mask, your fringe, or a hand isn't covering your face If it still fails, restart the app and try once more.

Turn it back on under iOS Settings > BestFace > Camera, then restart the app. The message shown when you start a scan also links to that settings screen.

This can happen when too few frames return usable depth. Try these in order: • Turn your head more slowly • Move somewhere brighter, and avoid backlighting • Hold the device still and move only your head Low Power Mode and a device that has become hot can also make capture unstable.

Tap "Restore Purchases" on the purchase screen. You need to be signed in with the same Apple ID used for the purchase, and to have a network connection. If that doesn't help, contact us with your purchase date and time and your plan (annual or weekly).

The depth sensor itself works in the dark, but the photo texture on your 3D model and your quality figure both suffer. We recommend a bright room with even light from in front of you, rather than standing with a window behind you. Scanning under the same lighting each day keeps your trend steady.

Your device model, iOS version, app version, what is happening and since when, and a screenshot if you can attach one. For scanning issues, the quality and stability figures that were displayed help a lot in narrowing down the cause.
